Active Matrix LCD

Term used to describe LCD screens that have microtransistores that opens and closes each pixel. Computers and projectors have differing abilities to "refresh" the images produced. Active Matrix technology refreshes the images so rapidly that a crisp, uniform image, free from "ghosting" is possible. This is especially noticeable in cursor movements and video images.

If in the right distance, it will project the sprites on the ceiling. Although the projection is not very bright, it works, if the room is dark enough. Active matrix LCDs are now the displays of choice for all notebook, desktop monitor and TV applications. They are now being increasingly used in mobile phone applications as the desire to show motion video becomes more important.

When fixed-matrix projectors began replacing the CRT in home theaters, many were products which had been designed for commercial use. Brighter and smaller than CRT-based projectors, they were also considerably louder.
