Throw Distance

Throw distance is the distance from the lens of the projector to the center of the screen surface. It is expressed as a range to indicate the minimum and maximum distance in feet that the projector should be from its projection surface.

The projector and the screen have influence on each other. Throw distance refers to the distance between the projector and the screen. It is the distance the image is "thrown". Throw distance is the foundation for determining the screen size, and it also helps determine if you need to use an additional lens.

In normal circumstances, most presenters do not need to use an additional lens, but depending upon the throw distance of the projector configuration, you may need a long or short throw lens. Often in home theatre individuals lack the correct throw distance in the room, but can buy a short throw lens, there are also "long throw" lenses available.
